Ethiopia will host the 17th Internet Governance Forum in 2022.

Huria Ali, State Minister for Innovation and Technology, held talks about the forum with UN Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Mr. Liu Zhenmin in Poland. Mr. Liu Zhenmin, UN Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs has pointed that 3.7 billion people in the world do not have access to telecommunications and the Internet and from this the highest number is in Africa. The internet connectivity in Africa is low and hoped that the next forum hosted by Ethiopia would suggest solutions to the problem. The state minister, on her part said Africa's efforts to benefit from digital technology and solve its infrastructure problems would be fruitful if the proper support is given this way. And the fact that more than 60 percent of the population is young is a great opportunity to expand technology and use it for development. The state minister also added Ethiopia is working and focusing toward telecom sector improvement, infrastructure development, digital skills and utilization on its part and thanked Mr. Liu Zhenmin and his office for the support they are providing. The 16th Internet Governance Forum was held in Poland and brought together various individuals and stakeholders to discuss Internet-related policies

The forum hosted various individuals and stakeholders to discuss Internet-related policies. State Minister for Innovation and Technology, who is representing Ethiopia in the event, shared the experience of Ethiopia's Digital Transformation Strategy and its Implementation. In particular, the state minister described the initiatives done in developing the digital economy legal framework and creating institutional linkages. Next year's 17th Internet Governance Conference will be hosted by Ethiopia. The Internet governance Forum is a forum that creates a mutual understanding for discussing and creating ideas about the opportunities and challenges associated with the Internet.

The 16th Internet Governance Forum was hosted by Poland. State Minister for Innovation and Technology, who participated on behalf of Ethiopia, said “the opportunity should be seized as more than 60 percent of youth live in Africa.” The state minister also added Ethiopia is working hard to increase the digital literacy of the youth. Hence, the youths should change internet connectivity into knowledge, creativity, and job opportunities. There are more than 25 million young people in Ethiopia between the ages of 15 and 29, and every year more than 300,000 youth graduate from higher education institutions. Huria Ali, State Minister for Innovation and Technology, briefed the forum on Ethiopia's ongoing efforts to move the sector forward.
